Sheikh Hamoud Saeed Al-Mekhlafi, Head of the Supreme Council for Popular Resistance, affirmed the importance of restoring the state, partnership, and citizenship, stressing that any political move that does not start from the principle of preserving the Republic of Yemen, the integrity of its legal entity, and its sovereignty is “a form of wandering.”
This came in his speech during the first consultative meeting of the Peace and Development Initiative in the French city of Strasbourg, where he noted that the Council represents an extension of the popular resistance that emerged under extremely dire circumstances, and succeeded, with the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Arab brothers, in disrupting the coup project and protecting Yemen’s geography.
The Council head explained that the resistance and Saudi military backing exhausted the coup plotters’ combat capability, pushing them toward the path of peace and settlement, which was aborted by internal and external parties.
He affirmed that the Council’s ceiling does not exceed what Yemenis agreed upon in the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, while firmly adhering to the principles of the Republic of Yemen and rejecting any undermining of sovereignty or tearing apart of the national territory.
In his address, Sheikh Al-Mekhlafi warned of the de facto forces that serve suspicious foreign agendas and deliberately seek to divide the country, tear apart its social fabric, and plant political and security landmines.
He urged participants in the meeting to adopt a comprehensive initiative capable of enforcing peace, stressing that real peace must not reward those involved in destroying the homeland. Instead, it must align with the supreme interest of the Yemeni people and subject everyone to transitional justice, fairness, and reparation.
